Examples of studies and time modules by ZTI 

Monitoring station for detecting underground nuclear explosions
PPS (Pulse Per Second) generator with small form factor to provide a reference PPS synchronous with the GPS PPS, with two classes of stability and power consumption lower than 150mW:
 - Class 1: operation in the absence of GPS signal with a drift less than 100 microseconds after 90 minutes.
 - Class 2: operation in the absence of GPS signal with a drift less than 1 millisecond after 90 minutes.

Timing module for use in Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
The timing module is used to synchronize all vehicle sensors with a common time source, which is then synchronized with a GPS signal while the vehicle is on the surface. Since it is an underwater vehicle, the majority of the vehicle operations can't use an active GPS signal. Thus, clock drift over time is of large concern and there is the need to minimize size and power consumption. The timing module is connected to the vehicle’s communication network, and the module has to broadcast synchronous time messages, based on either GPS time (while on the surface), or a low-drift internal oscillator (while underwater). All other sensors and subsystems use this timing message, and periodically synchronize themselves to it. A typical vehicle mission lasts several hours underwater (without GPS) and the tolerable max clock drift is up to 1ms.
